ABAS in 2025

2025 is a big year for the American Bootes Astronomy Society. We launched our first STEM summer camp and continued our tradition of hosting roadside astronomy for the community

ASBS held its Roadside Astronomy in Longfellow Middle School

On the evening of April 17, 2025, as twilight deepened over Fairfax County, the familiar grounds of Longfellow Middle School transformed into an impromptu observatory.

ABAS brought its signature Celestron C8 telescope, which is ideal for viewing planets. With clear skies and excellent weather, kids and their families were able to appreciate the stunning views of Jupiter and its moons.

Astronomy and STEM summer camp

Greater Washington Astronomy & STEM Summer Camp, proudly hosted by the American Bootes Astronomical Society (ABAS). During this one week STEM camp, students learned the basics of observational astronomy, astrophotography, our Solar system. The most fun part is always the rocket launching!

Perseid Meteor Shower show

ABAS successfully organized Fairfax stargazers to embrace the Perseids at Lake Fairfax Park. It was a lovely night with immersing oneself under the night sky, away from urban light pollution. It was not a peak year for the Perseids, however, everybody was excited whenever a bright shooting star was in the view.
